Red Earth is a 46-acre organic farm in southern Tattnall County where Janisse lives with her family. The home was built in 1850 in the Federalist style, using lumber cut from the property and milled about a mile away, on Slaughter Creek. The farm has cows, sheep, hogs, chickens, turkeys, guineas, four horses and a mule. Plus a few ducks, rabbits, dogs & one barn cat. The farm is not an industrial farm but rather a diversified family farm such as those that existed at the turn of the twentieth century. Its purpose is to grow good food for the family & the community. The property is located in the delta of two rivers, Altamaha & Ohoopee, each a couple of miles away, and is in the watershed of Slaughter Creek.
